We keep trying out apps, websites, YouTube channels, and audio courses for language learning and practice. This is an ever-growing list of our favorites, in order of most used.
Duolingo. Maybe everyone’s favorite app. It’s free, easy to use and has dozens of languages, including Klingon. It’s not the best for understanding grammar, but it’s excellent for expanding vocabulary.
Mango Languages. I like this for its repetition and drilling of pronunciation, which I understand is crucial in French communication. Our public library offers free access.
Learn French with Vincent. This is an excellent YouTube channel for the visual learner. The focus is on understanding grammar.
Coffee Break French. Learn French from a couple of Scots! These podcasts are perfect while exercising or walking to work.
France24. Like CNN, but in French and way more comprehensive. Listen to real French speakers around the world. An unintentional side effect is the reminder or discovery of the insularity of U.S. broadcast news coverage.
